3 Ideas for Effective Dental Operatory Design

February 10, 2017 by Robert Murphy

Dental office interiorThe style and design of your dental office space reflects both you and your practice. A clean, modern and well-designed facility can communicate confidence and safety. The alternative, however, may breed fear and discontent. In order to grow your business and increase patient satisfaction, your office should be styled to meet patients’ needs, build feelings of security and ultimately, encourage referrals. Designing your modern operatory may be the most crucial step in revolutionizing  your practice.

Patient-Centered Style

Place your patients at the core of your design decisions. Consider where they spend time looking or sitting. If possible, place your examination chair so that it faces a large window or artwork. Take care to place intimidating X-ray machinery away from patients or toward the back of the space to reduce anxiety. Use appropriate storage cabinetry or coverings to minimize the appearance of invasive tools. Position the room’s computer away from patients to reduce the risk of exposing confidential data. And, don’t forget to take a look at your ceilings. Your patients spend a great deal of time studying them; you should, too.

Durability

Choose durable, yet fashionable flooring and storage options. Make sure that materials are easy to maintain, such as non-porous countertops and laminate cabinets. Since your operatory requires constant cleaning, these materials will hold up better than wood or stone products. High-quality vinyl or commercial carpeting can reduce noise and offer sturdy performance. These products can be easily styled to match the look of your practice.

Smooth Workflow

Building an examination space that allows both privacy and functionality is essential. The area should be ergonomically designed for both employees and patients, allowing for optimal movement. Hygienists and doctors need a defined place to sit while working, quick access to tools and a wide range of comfortable motion in order to perform effectively. The placement of your storage areas, exam tables and patient chair should work together seamlessly to provide the best experience possible.

When considering improvements, enlist the help of skilled professionals. They can offer many dental office construction ideas to help you achieve your perfect operatory.

hergott wood interiorDental office architecture might not seem like a very broad specialization. In fact, it seems relatively narrow. When you think about a dentist’s office, you may come up with a very general idea of what it’s supposed to look like. Green Dental Office Design – Improving the Lighting

November 3, 2016 by Robert Murphy

Dental equipmentThe worst thing that could happen to your dental office design is poor lighting. Without the right amount of light, the procedures will be tougher. You could also run the risk of improperly matching your patient’s teeth. Dental office lighting is an important component. Not only do you need the right light but most offices also want more energy efficient lighting.

The cost of energy is something that every business has to consider. Not to mention, most people are now more aware of the need for more environmentally friendly options in everyday life. Most of the time, during a renovation, you want to be involved in what’s being done. After all, when someone who isn’t involved in dental health care gets involved with dental office design, you can end up with lights that don’t perform up to the right standards. So, how do you go green while keeping your lights up to standard?

One of the best ways to go green and get the most out of your lighting is to move towards LED. LED reduces your office’s energy consumption significantly. When it comes to more energy efficient lighting, most people worry about brightness. No one wants a poorly lit office, no matter how much energy is saved.

Fortunately, LED lights offer brightness without the same amount of energy used. Additionally, there are no harmful chemicals involved. Fluorescent lighting often contains lead, mercury and sodium. Using LEDs in dental office design is a cleaner and more efficient route to take.

When it comes down to it, remodeling a dentist’s office can be full of a lot of difficult decisions. When it comes to dental office lighting, you can’t afford to get it wrong. There are too many problems associated with a poorly lit office. With LED lighting, however, you can have the brightness you need and save on energy costs.

Dental Office Design and Branding – Receptionist as Concierge

September 13, 2016 by Robert Murphy

Dental office blue chairThe first thing that a patient notices when entering a dental office is usually the receptionist. In this scenario, first impressions are important. The way that your patient interacts with the receptionist is usually going to inform the rest of the experience. If the receptionist is warm and friendly, your patient will feel more at home.
